Coronal Polishing Requirements and Certification

As a dental professional, you are constantly seeking out new ways to deepen your skills and improve the care your patients receive. While you consider the ways to further your education, it may be time to look into learning about coronal polishing. This technique is designed to help remove built-up plaque on your clients’ teeth and can help them enjoy a healthier mouth overall. To learn more about coronal polishing requirements and certification, contact us today.

What Are the Requirements for Coronal Polishing?

Coronal polishing requirements and certification include a 12-hour course of study, with 8 hours of in-office training and 4 hours of home study. This hands-on training will set you up to provide the best care possible to your clients. Kingsburg School of Dental Assisting, with the approval of the Dental Board of California, will give you the skills and knowledge necessary to help your patients’ smiles gleam.

Our Coronal Polishing Course

The Coronal Polishing course offered by Kingsburg School of Dental Assisting can be completed within a very short timeframe – 12 hours. The course is offered Monday through Thursday, meaning your scheduling is flexible. In order to successfully pass the course and receive your certification in coronal polishing, you will have to perform a coronal polishing on three different patients and pass a written test with a 75 percent or better. This helps ensure you have hands-on experience and understand the process both inside and out.

It is important that, during the treatment of patients, you wear appropriate PPE. You will also be responsible for providing your own patients as you work through your three hands-on coronal polishing procedures. The patients must be over 18 and have a complete health and dental history filled out for safety.

Once you complete the training hours, including the three patient demonstrations, and pass the written test, you will receive your Certification of Coronal Polishing Course, noting that you are knowledgeable about the procedure. This will allow you to provide even more specialized care to your patients and help them in the ways that best suit them and their dental needs.
