What to Expect in a Coronal Polishing Course
As a dental health professional, you care about the well-being of your patients. As such, you continue to look into new and exciting techniques to provide your patients with the best care possible. One such technique you may be considering is coronal polishing. By taking a course and continuing your education, you can learn techniques that will help your practice and patients.
You may be wondering what to expect in a coronal polishing course. Much like other medical training courses, Kingsburg School of Dental Assisting provides you with both the book learning aspects of understanding coronal polishing as well as the opportunity to experience the process in a hands-on environment. This holistic approach to education will provide you with a solid foundation to build your skills on.
Coronal Polishing Course
At Kingsburg School of Dental Assisting, you will explore coronal polishing over 12 hours of study. Eight hours of your study will be in the office, often observing or practicing your technique in a hands-on manner. Four hours of the course are reserved for home study, where you explore the ideas and techniques to prepare for the hands-on portions of the course.
Coronal polishing is a prophylactic form of dental care designed to remove stains and plaque on the teeth while smoothing their surface. This can help with other aspects of dental care, as well, such as enhancing fluoride absorption or preparing the teeth for a different procedure, such as dental dams or orthodontic work.
Course Requirements and Certification
During the course, you will be required to complete a written exam. You are required to pass with a 75 percent or more. You will also get the opportunity to complete a coronal polishing on three different patients. By spending time working with the technique, you will gain a deeper understanding of how to properly conduct the procedure. Once you have passed the exam and completed your three coronal polishing procedures, you will be awarded a Certification of Coronal Polishing Course and can begin offering the procedure at your own dental practice.
